Myth:

The COVID-19 vaccines contain and were developed with controversial substances.

Fact:

The first two COVID-19 vaccines that were authorized by the FDA contain mRNA and other normal vaccine ingredients such as fats, salts and a small amount of sugar. The COVID-19 vaccines are safe.

Myth:

The COVID-19 vaccines change your DNA.

Fact:

COVID-19 vaccines deliver instructions (genetic material) to our cells to start building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19. However, the material never enters the nucleus of the cell, which is where our DNA is kept. COVID-19 vaccines do not change your DNA.

Myth:

The COVID-19 vaccines were rushed and are therefore unsafe and ineffective.

Fact:

The COVID-19 vaccines have undergone and continue to undergo the most intensive safety monitoring in U.S. history, including studies about adolescents, children, and the general public. Studies have shown that the COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The vaccines are safe and effective.

Myth:

The COVID-19 vaccines give you COVID-19.

Fact:

Getting the COVID-19 vaccine helps prevent you from contracting COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccines teach our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. COVID-19 vaccines do not give you COVID-19.
